Exclusive reveal of ‘The Spirit’ comic from the ‘Love Is Love’ anthology

Will Eisner’s the Spirit, is joining up with Batwoman, Harry Potter, Archie Andrews and superheroes from all around for "Love Is Love," a comic anthology in honor of the victims and survivors of the June attack in Orlando, Fla.  

In the aftermath of the attack at gay nightclub Pulse, an assault that left 49 dead, writer Marc Andreyko organized a collection of comic book stories into an anthology titled "Love Is Love." The stories will feature more than 100 stories by more than 250 creators, and all proceeds will go to Equality Florida and its fund for the victims, survivors and family members affected by the Pulse nightclub massacre

“When tragedy happens, art responds. And after the Pulse massacre, the comics community responded quickly, decisively and with open hearts,” Andreyko said when the project was first announced in September. 

In addition to Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and other DC Comics characters that will appear in various stories and illustrations, "Love Is Love" will include an Archie Comics story as well as one set in the world of "Southern Bastards."

"Love Is Love" will also feature “The Spirit” in a comic donated by the current creative team: writer Matt Wagner, artist Dan Schkade, colorist Brennan Wagner and letterer Dave Lanphear. 

Below is the exclusive first look at "The Spirit" short featured in "Love Is Love," with permission by current "The Spirit" publisher Dynamite Entertainment.

The 144-page anthology includes short comics and art pieces that directly address the tragedy, mourn the victims, contemplate love and celebrate the LGBT community.

All the comics included in the book were donated by the writers, artists and editors.

Among the announced contributors are Brian Michael Bendis, Gail Simone, Scott Snyder, Jim Lee, Paul Dini, Jason Aaron, Jason Latour, Kieron Gillen, Michael Avon Oeming, Tom King, Cecil Castellucci, Mirka Adolfo, Mark Millar, Cat Staggs, Amanda Diebert, Sina Grace, Ed Luce, Phil Jimenez, Brad Meltzer, Morgan Spurlock, Matt Bomer, Taran Killam, Steve Sadowski, Paul Jenkins, Mike Carey, Matt Wagner, Damon Lindelof, Patton Oswalt, Brandon Peterson, Jesus Saiz, Olivier Coipel and Leinil Yu. 

"Love Is Love" is co-published by IDW Publishing and DC Entertainment and will be available Dec. 28 for $9.99.
