‘Halt and Catch Fire’ renewed for final season

“Halt and Catch Fire” will get a proper conclusion. In advance of its third season finale, AMC has announced that the series has been renewed for a fourth and final season.

Set in the early 1980s, “Halt and Catch Fire” explores the rise of personal computers and the Internet. The first season introduced Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace), engineer Gordon Clark (Scoot McNairy) and programmer Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis) as they teamed up to try to create a newer, better machine than the IBM PC.

“Halt and Catch Fire’s” second season shifted its focus to following Cameron and her new Internet gaming and social media company she founded with Gordon’s wife and ex-engineering partner Donna (Kerry Bishé), and the current third season has seen the series move from Texas to Silicon Valley.

“We are so proud of ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ – a true passion project – and thank the critics and fans who have embraced this unique program,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios in a press release. “It is our great pleasure to renew this project for a fourth and final season, so we can all tune in to see if Cameron, Donna and the rest of the gang turn Swap Meet into eBay, Amazon or Facebook.”

“We are excited to end the show on its own terms and to give our story, these characters, and our fans the conclusion they so richly deserve,” added creators and showrunners Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers.

After Rogers expressed his excitement over the renewal over on Twitter, Cantwell shared details about his “Halt and Catch Fire” journey, that started in 2011, in a series of tweets Tuesday. He recounted meeting the show’s “perfect” cast, doubts caused by the show’s initial reviews and the joy of being renewed.

The fourth season of “Halt and Catch Fire” will consist of 10 episodes.

The back-to-back final episodes of season 3 air tonight at 9 p.m.
