MTV renews coming-of-age drama ‘Finding Carter’ for a second season

“Finding Carter” has found a stable home with MTV.

The network has renewed the scripted drama for a second season consisting of 12 episodes.

The coming-of-age drama from Emily Silver (“Bones”) centers on a teenager (Kathryn Prescott) who learns that her mother abducted her as a child (see, we weren’t kidding about it being a drama).

“The creative minds behind ‘Finding Carter’ did an exceptional job bringing this story to life and drawing our audience in,” Susanne Daniels, MTV’s programming president, said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to another season following Carter on her journey.”

“Finding Carter,” currently in the middle of its first season, has pulled in an average of 2.2 million viewers when three days of delayed viewing are included. In fact, its DVR figures are something to note, with the series seeing a growth of nearly 70% on average when the three-day window is factored in.

The drama is part of the network’s growing lineup of original scripted programs, which also includes “Awkward” and “Teen Wolf.” Next up, beginning Sept. 30, are the drama “Eye Candy” and the comedy “Happyland.” And in the pipeline is the much-talked-about “Scream” adaptation and the comedy “Ken Jeong Made Me Do It.”

The freshman comedy “Faking It” was also recently renewed for a second season.

MTV, meanwhile, plans to expand “Finding Carter’s” reach, with the first season slated for a rollout on MTV’s international channels beginning in January.
