Emergency workers examine the wreckage of the Aria Airlines jet at Mashhad airport, about 600 miles from the Iranian capital, Tehran. The plane is a Russian-made Ilyushin-62. Aviation experts noted the dilapidated state of the Iranian airlines industry, which is reliant on older Russian planes that have proved unreliable. Last week, a Russian-made Tupolev jet crashed 16 minutes after taking off from Tehran, killing all 168 aboard.
