A decades-old same-sex marriage complicates a green-card case

The 1975 letter to Anthony Sullivan and Richard Adams from the Los Angeles Office of Immigration and Naturalization Service had one sentence: "You have failed to establish that a bona fide marital relationship can exist between two faggots." The men had applied for a green card for Sullivan, who is Australian, after a liberal Colorado county clerk issued them a marriage license and were denied.
