To the editor: Dan Schnur makes it seem like the departure of Rep. Ed Royce (R-Fullerton) from Congress is a bad thing. (“Ed Royce’s exit is going to make it even tougher to restore America’s international reputation,” Opinion, Jan. 10)

I do not agree. For far too long our foreign policy has been the equivalent of whacking a hornet’s nest with a baseball bat, and then wondering why we get stung.

If President Trump wants to change that, I don’t see the problem.

To the editor: If Royce had shown the guts to stand up to Trump and his horrendous policies, he could have maintained his office and remained the “globalist” in Congress whom Schnur admires.

Royce is completely responsible for his deteriorating reputation, opening California’s 39th Congressional District to any of several excellent Democratic candidates.
