11-12-13 poised to be a busy wedding day
Couples typically aren’t clamoring to wed midweek. But since Tuesday marks 11-12-13, it could prove to be one of the most popular days of the year to say “I do.”
More than 3,320 couples are expected to get married Tuesday, compared with the 371 weddings held the same Tuesday of the month last year, according to a David’s Bridal survey.
“Iconic dates have become a trend in the United States, reaching heights when more than 65,000 couples tied the knot on 07/07/07,” Brian Beitler, executive vice president of David’s Bridal, said in a statement. “And we have learned that couples love dates that have patterns.”
The bridal retailer queried 500 brides-to-be and women who had recently wed and found that 40% said they’d consider planning their nuptials on dates with repeated numbers, like last year’s 12-12-12, or consecutive numbers, like next year’s 12-13-14.

“We chose 11 because we met in November, 12 because that will be the number of our family after we have our two kids (Larry has five, and I have three), and 13 was the date that Larry proposed to me in Palm Springs,” Deardorff said via email.
Although Deardorff choose the date for more personal reasons, 11-12-13 also has broader appeal.
Couples “want to go throughout their marriage and lives saying they got married on 11-12-13,” said Kat Keane, a wedding planner in Los Angeles. “They think it’s good luck or numerically attractive.”
Tuesday’s newlyweds might be lucky in love, but it could come at a higher price.
Some venues want to capitalize on these popular dates, “so they’ll double or triple their rates,” Keane said. “They know there’s going to be a couple who will want it and pay for it.”
The trend in timing nuptials to calendar anomalies could soon come to a close, at least for a while.
The next iconic date, 12-13-14, marks the final consecutive series of the century. And as fate — or luck — would have it, the day falls on a Saturday, the most popular day of the week for weddings.
“So we predict this date could reach recordbreaking numbers,” Beitler said.
