Shelly Sterling thinks Donald Sterling has dementia

Shelly Sterling didn’t exactly defend her husband, Donald Sterling, following his controversial interview that aired on CNN on Monday.

“I really think personally he has dementia,” Shelly Sterling said in an interview that was aired Tuesday morning on the “Today” show.

In Donald Sterling’s first sit-down interview since NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned him from the NBA for life and said he would encourage the Board of Governors to force him to sell the Clippers after an audiotape featuring Sterling making racially insensitive comments was published, Sterling further dug himself into a hole.

Sterling intimated that African Americans have not done enough to help their community and said that Magic Johnson should not be respected because “he made love to every girl in every city in America. And he had AIDS.”

Shelly Sterling said she didn’t approve of her husband’s comments about Johnson.

“Why would he bring Magic Johnson into the issue about what’s happening now?” she said. “I mean, that’s why I felt pity because he couldn’t get all the dots together. He couldn’t connect the dots.”

Shelly Sterling claimed she had never known her husband to be a racist, adding that he’s recently changed.

“I felt bad for him,” Shelly Sterling said. “Because he’s not the man I know. Or I knew. There’s something wrong.”

Shelly Sterling said that she didn’t want to be blamed for Donald Sterling’s comments, and said that she would fight to keep the Clippers.

“I’m very angry,” she said. “And I’m very hurt. And I even cried listening to that, because I just feel bad. And then I feel bad. Why am I the victim when he’s the perpetrator? If somebody killed somebody, does the wife have to stand trial too?”
