Phil Jackson, Jeanie Buss tip caps to career of Yankees’ Derek Jeter

Though Lakers owner and executive Jeanie Buss is engaged to New York Knicks President Phil Jackson, the two were recently at odds in the hunt for unrestricted free agent Carmelo Anthony.

While Anthony picked the Knicks, Buss and Jackson joined together to honor the career of the New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter, who is retiring after the season.

In a Jordan Brand television spot entitled “RE2PECT,” Buss tips her Lakers cap, and Jackson does the same with his Knicks cap, to future Hall of Famer Jeter.

Buss and Jackson are just two of many familiar figures appearing for Jeter, including Anthony, Rudy Giuliani, Jay-Z, John Lackey, Joe Torre, Mariano Rivera, Andy Petitte, Spike Lee, Maya Moore, Tiger Woods, Billy Crystal, rapper Action Bronson and skater Eric Koston.

The Lakers recently interviewed Anthony at the team’s practice facility in El Segundo, but the high-scoring forward spurned L.A., the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls for New York.

The Knicks also hired former Lakers point guard Derek Fisher as head coach. The Lakers have yet to replace Mike D’Antoni, who resigned from the head coaching position in late April.
