For the first time since joining the Angels, outfielder Daniel Robertson on Saturday was scheduled to start in the leadoff spot against the Seattle Mariners.

Robertson, acquired from the Texas Rangers in November, was recalled from triple-A Salt Lake on June 14. He is batting .250 in 10 games, with two runs batted in.

In 2014, Robertson batted first in 24 games for the Rangers.

In his three starts for the Angels, Robertson batted ninth twice and eighth once.

Robertson said he was capable of hitting anywhere in the order, but of batting first he said, “It’s where I’m comfortable. I feel it’s where my game plays, so we’ll see how it works out.”

Manager Mike Scioscia said he installed Robertson

at the top of the order because a left-hander, J.A. Happ, was starting for the Mariners and because shortstop Erick Aybar’s absence from the lineup due to a hamstring issue enabled him to move second baseman Johnny Giavotella “a little bit deeper in the lineup” to sixth.

Shortstop Taylor Featherston is batting ninth.
