D.J. Morgan has left the USC football team.

Morgan, a fifth-year senior, played tailback during his first four seasons and was attempting a move to safety.

Morgan was hindered throughout his career by multiple knee injuries. He was sidelined last season while recovering from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

“We’re wishing him the best of luck,” USC Coach Steve Sarkisian said.

Morgan, also a hurdler, said he was healthy, but wants to give his body a year to heal for football. He plans to compete for the Trojans’ track team this spring.

Morgan said football remains in his future and that he plans to pursue NFL opportunities.

“I realize I still have a lot left in me,” he said. “I haven’t played in awhile and I just want to get my body back.”

Morgan rushed for 364 yards in 83 carries with one touchdown in his USC career.
