Football: Lompoc is 7-0 behind Toa Taua

Lompoc is 7-0 and ranked No. 3 in Southern Section Division 4 behind junior running back Toa Taua, the brother of UCLA fulltback Ainuu Taua.

Taua has had six games over 100 yards rushing, including 221 yards against Righetti.

He’s 5 feet 10, 220 pounds and full of strength and toughness.

Lompoc is a team in transition. Four schools in its area are expected to leave the Southern Section next year for the Central Coast Section. That will leave Lompoc as the farthest school in the area from the Southern Section.

Lompoc may have to start traveling closer to Los Angeles for games in the coming years.

“It’s pricey for us,” Coach Andrew Jones said. “It’s one of those things we have to start doing that or it could be hurting us.”
