Relive the ‘90s when the Spin Doctors play for free in August
Bebop through the ’90s with a free show on Saturday, Aug. 1, with the Spin Doctors and Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. The two bands take over the First Street Stage on the Fremont Street Experience as part of the Rock of Vegas summer concert series.
The Spin Doctors started out as four 20-something guys in New York who released their first album, “Pocket Full of Kryptonite” in 1992.
That album alone contained the monster hits “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong” and “Two Princes,” making the band an overnight sensation.
Their second album, 1994’s “Turn It Upside Down,” featured the single, “You Let Your Heart Go Too Fast.” The band released one more album before disbanding in 1999.
The band reunited for a series of shows in 2001 and 2002, and they used that momentum to head back into the studio, where they recorded “Nice Talking to Me,” released in 2005.
They celebrated the 20th anniversary of “Pocket Full of Kryptonite” in 2011 with a deluxe edition and a supporting tour. Their latest album, the all-blues “If the River Was Whiskey,” came out in 2013.
The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies broke into the musical mainstream with their 1997 swing compilation “Zoot Suit Riot: The Swingin’ Hits of the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies,” which came out during that late 1990s swing revival.
The Daddies have been debuting songs on tour from a late 2015 album “The Boop-A-Doo.”
