Earthquake: 2.8 quake strikes near Willow Creek, California
A shallow magnitude 2.8 earthquake was reported Monday afternoon 30 miles from Willow Creek, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 3:23 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 24.2 miles.
[Updated 5:41 p.m. June 10: An earlier version of the headline and post stated that the quake was 3.1 magnitude, 29 miles from Willow Creek and at a depth of 24.9 miles.]
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 44 miles from McKinleyville, Calif., 47 miles from Arcata, Calif., 48 miles from Bayside, Calif., and 214 miles from Sacramento.
In the last 10 days, there has been one earthquake magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
