A Walnut woman was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison for stabbing her estranged husband and family dog, Snowflake, to death.

Socorro Mora, 46, also was ordered to pay $9,902 to her husband’s brother to pay for funeral costs, and $8,112 to the California Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Socorro Mora was convicted in May of stabbing her 47-year-old husband, George Mora, 33 times after he obtained a restraining order against her.

She broke into his home and used three different knives in the attack, according to prosecutors.

But trouble between the couple began in 2011, when she assaulted him and then scratched herself to make it look as though he had hurt her, prosecutors said.

He was granted custody of their four children and she was ordered to move out of their home.

After Socorro Mora moved out, the family returned to find their home ransacked and the dog stabbed to death.
