Santa Clarita apartment fire displaces at least 2 families
A propane tank caught fire near an apartment complex in Santa Clarita early Monday morning, spreading to the building and displacing at least two families, authorities said.
The blaze started about 2:45 a.m. in the bottom floor of the three-story apartment complex in the 27000 block of Claudette Street, said L.A. County Fire Deputy Supervisor Robert Diaz. Emergency crews arrived to find the flames had risen to the second and third floors and threatened to engulf the entire building.
Two firefighters were hurt as they battled the blaze. They were taken to a local hospital and treated for unknown injuries. The fire was finally knocked down about 3:22 a.m., Diaz said.
At least two families were displaced, said Bernard Peters, a county fire supervisor. Several apartments sustained significant damage, he said.
Arson investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire.
