KTLA bomb threat was a hoax, LAPD says
Los Angeles police said Tuesday night that a bomb threat that forced employees at the KTLA-TV studios in Hollywood to be evacuated was a hoax.
“It was a hoax call,” Los Angeles Police Department Officer Christopher No told The Times. “The guy called and said, ‘there was a bomb’.... He said it was going to blow.”
Employees would be allowed back into the studios, police said.
Bomb squad personnel, along with search dogs, scoured the property at 5800 Sunset Blvd. for about two hours but found no suspicious devices, police said.
Among those evacuated were reporters and producers involved in the station’s 10 p.m. newscast and workers on several syndicated shows, including the popular “Judge Judy.”’
The incident began after a man called 911 and said he was “going to detonate” three devices, which were on the north side of the station, No said Tuesday evening.
As officers swept the area, law enforcement authorities said they believed that the call was a hoax but that all bomb threats are taken seriously, especially in light of the attack at the Boston Marathon.
Throughout the incident, KTLA employees used Twitter to report updates on the situation and post photos. Employees repeatedly assured people on Twitter that they were safe as officers searched the area.
