Marine beat girlfriend’s baby into a coma, detectives say
A U.S. Marine from Joshua Tree has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an infant, who was left in a coma.
Authorities said Wednesday 24-year-old John Jeter beat his girlfriend’s 5-month-old daughter so badly that she suffered a brain hemorrhage.
Detectives began looking into the child’s injuries Nov. 19 after she was taken to two area hospitals for treatment, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Jeter is stationed at Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of assault on a child resulting in coma.
Jeter is being held on $500,000 bail and is expected to appear in court Dec. 9.
