51-year-old military veteran attacked in attempted robbery
A 51-year-old military veteran was assaulted by at two attackers during an attempted robbery in Fontana, police said Monday afternoon.
The incident was reported about 8 p.m. Sunday after the victim was approached by a 19-year-old man and 17-year-old male near Bennett Avenue and Reed Street, the Fontana Police Department said.
The 17-year-old allegedly demanded money from the victim, who refused. The two began fighting and the victim started to “gain the advantage,” prompting the 19-year-old to jump in and began striking the victim, according to police.
A patrol officer arrived as the two suspects fled. They were arrested a short distance away.
The victim received cuts and bruises and was treated by medics at the scene. He was identified by police only as a military veteran from Fontana.
