Crystal Cathedral’s Schuller hospitalized after falling at home
Crystal Cathedral Ministries’ founding pastor, who propelled his church into an international religious force, has been hospitalized after falling, according to the family.
The Rev. Robert H. Schuller fell in the middle of the night over the weekend while at home in Orange. He remains in an Orange County hospital where “he’s doing well, recovering quickly, and of course, our prayers are with him,” said Angie Schuller, his granddaughter.
Schuller, 86, is undergoing tests and doctors may release him later this week.
The Crystal Cathedral Ministries stemmed from the Reformed Church in America, founded in 1955 by Schuller, whose teachings inspired a global audience through his televised “Hour of Power” shows. At its peak, the broadcasts attracted more than 20 million viewers worldwide.
The towering, glass-paned structure that he and his supporters built was dedicated in 1980. More than three decades later, Schuller resigned from the church’s board in 2012 after the organization filed for bankruptcy.
Last year, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange bought the church property, operating it as the Christ Cathedral campus.
