San Francisco breaks heat record amid California drought, heat wave
It’s the saying San Francisco residents love to hate: “The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco.”
It’s attributed to Mark Twain and comes in handy when summer travellers experience the wind and fog of the city.
But not Friday. According to the National Weather Service, San Francisco set a new record high of 85 for the day, breaking the old record of 82 set in 1973.
The Bay Area, which like the rest of the state is in the midst of a drought, is experiencing a heat wave. The NWS said that temperatures will exceed 100 degrees in some inland spots.
The NWS said Saturday will be slightly cooler on the coast but still hot inland.
Southern California also broke some heat records this week.
