An Arizona woman who tried to strangle herself after allegedly killing her two children is in custody on suspicion of murder.

Marilyn Edge, 42, of Scottsdale, Ariz., was booked by Santa Ana police Saturday after she directed officers to her hotel room where they found her 13-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter dead.

On Saturday morning, Edge rammed her vehicle into steel poles in an attempt to crash into an electric vault behind a Home Depot store in the 2300 block of Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa, police said.

There was a propane tank in her car, which she allegedly thought would make the vehicle explode. Edge was uncooperative and attempted to strangle herself when officers arrived, Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna told KTLA-TV Channel 5.

After she was pulled from the car, Edge allegedly told authorities about the two dead children. Santa Ana police officers rushed to the hotel room on the third floor of a Hampton Inn & Suites at 2720 Hotel Terrace and found the bodies. Neither child’s name has been released.

Edge was put on suicide watch over the weekend and remains in custody without bail, KTLA reported. She is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Bertagna said.
