Flight delays and cancellations continue after technical glitch causes havoc for Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines passengers could expect another day of delays and cancellations Thursday, even after officials repaired a computer glitch that left hundreds stranded at Los Angeles International Airport and across the U.S.
Southwest officials said more than 221 flights were canceled Thursday morning as they positioned aircraft and crew.
“I want to start off by once again apologizing to our Customers and reiterating that your experience throughout the past 24 hours is not the service you should expect from Southwest Airlines,” airlines spokeswoman Lisa Rutherford said in a statement.
Computer outages triggered cancellations and delays Wednesday at airports across the country after the Dallas-based airline began experiencing “intermittent performance issues earlier this afternoon with multiple technology systems as a result of an outage.”
“Our employees are the best in the business, and they are working extremely hard to get you and your luggage to your destination,” Rutherford said in the statement. “Thank you for hanging in there with us. We will have more information later regarding flexible rebooking, and we will continue to work with each and every affected customer to make this right.”
A group of young baseball players slept overnight at LAX as they waited for their flight to the Pony League National Championship game in Mt. Vernon, Ill., KNBC-TV reported. The team feared they would have to forfeit because of flight cancellations.
