Surf City Surf Dog 2014 brought dozens of dogs to Huntington Beach on Sunday for the annual dogs-on-surfboards competition.

The three-day event kicked off Friday with a “yappy hour” and a “paw-abunga” costume contest. On Saturday, three special canines were inducted into the International Surf Dog Walk of Fame. The festivities concluded Sunday with the surfing competition at Huntington Dog Beach and an award ceremony at the Shorebreak Hotel.

It was the sixth year for the Unleashed by Petco Surf City Surf Dog Competition. A reported 65 four-legged competitors took part, with 2,500 two-legged fans on hand for the spectacle. It was the largest surf dog competition yet, organizer Lisa Scolman told the Orange County Register.

The dogs competed in four weight classes, plus “tandem” for pet-owner pairs and “shredder” -- because apparently even dogs can shred.

Surf City Surf Dog posted photos of the happy winners on Instagram.
