About 20 utility customers in Venice will be without water service until Tuesday afternoon after a pipe burst Monday night, flooding narrow streets and several home garages.

The 6-inch main ruptured about 10:30 p.m. near Carrol Canal and Dell Avenue, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power officials said. It gushed some 100,000 gallons of water into the neighborhood before crews shut it down for repairs, CBS2 reported.

The DWP said it did not know the age of the pipe that burst.

In similar incidents, the DWP will sometimes bring out water to customers but utility spokeswoman Gale Harris said she did not know if crews had done so in this case.
