Capt. Shannon Smith, spokesman for the Somerset Police Department, told the Los Angeles Times that the shooting seems to have resulted from a dispute that began on Thursday.

Inabnitt sought out Stanziano, seeking help with a problem. The lawyer said that problem “was outside of his area of being able to offer assistance,” Smith said.

There were threats made against Stanziano, who never asked for police help, Smith said.

Before first moving to Kentucky, Stanziano practiced law in Columbus, Ohio. After a brief stint with the Minnesota public defender system, Stanziano returned to Kentucky in 2008. In 2010, he and his wife opened offices in Somerset and Columbia.
