An 11-year-old girl in Ohio has been charged with murder in the death of a 2-month-old girl, according to the Wickliffe Police Department.

Police responded to a call about an unresponsive baby around 3:45 a.m. Eastern time Friday in Wickliffe, which is about 17 miles northeast of Cleveland, said Sgt. Len Nosse, a police spokesman.

A friend of the infant’s family was babysitting at the time, and the babysitter’s 11-year-old daughter was with her, Nosse said.

The family friend, whose identity was not provided, fell asleep with the baby on one side of her and her daughter on the other, Nosse said. According to police, her daughter woke her up and said there was something wrong with the baby, who was no longer beside her. When the woman saw the heavily injured infant, police said, she called 911.

An autopsy revealed that the baby, named Zuri Whitehead, suffered massive blunt-force trauma to the head and torso, Nosse said.

“It was really horrific,” he said. “We’ve never seen anything like this.”

The baby died Friday while having surgery at a hospital, police said.

The 11-year-old is being held without bond and undergoing psychiatric evaluation, Nosse said.
