Student shot, wounded on campus of Widener University in Pa.

CHESTER, Pa. — Authorities said a student at Widener University in suburban Philadelphia was shot Monday night, and the university warned students to remain indoors until further notice.

The school said on its website that the student was shot near the Schwartz Athletic Center on the school’s campus around 9 p.m. Monday. The victim’s condition wasn’t known. The university said the student’s family was with him.

[Updated, 8:59 p.m. PST, Jan. 20: Later, the university said the student’s family had been notified. In addition, a nursing supervisor at Crozer Chester Medical Center said the victim was in surgery late Monday night.]

Widener is a private university in Chester, about 15 miles southwest of Philadelphia.
