When Jerry and Alan Simmons remodeled their 1963 Gregory Ain-designed house in Tarzana, they wanted to preserve as many original elements as possible. Architects Alice Fung and Michael Blatt guided the couple through the updating of the house, whose defining motif is the hexagon, seen here highlighted by wood beams in the living room ceiling. Also apparent in the ceiling: the X-shaped track for shoji screens, which can be used to divide the space.
