CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / LOS ANGELES
An 18-month-old boy was accidentally crushed to death by a vehicle Saturday at a carwash in Koreatown, authorities said.
Devin Gales, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said the toddler was wandering on the lot of the Wilshire Car Wash at 505 S. Vermont Ave. when a car rolled over his head and body. He was struck as a driver emerged from the carwash and headed to the drying area.
The boy was pronounced dead about 1:30 p.m. at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Police said they investigated the incident and concluded that the boy’s death was accidental.
“It was a terrible accident,” said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Julius Guay.
A few hours later, the Wilshire Car Wash remained closed as workers cleaned the boy’s blood off the asphalt in the drying area.
