A burglary suspect who barricaded himself inside a house in Winnetka was arrested Saturday after SWAT team officers disabled him with tear gas and then stormed in, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The 11-hour standoff ended about 2:35 a.m. when police arrested Michael Krieger, 32. Police said he had been wanted in connection with a string of auto burglaries.

Police said the incident began Friday afternoon in the 20600 block of Saticoy Street when Krieger spotted officers in the area and fled into the house.

Police found a sawed-off shotgun inside Krieger’s green Ford Explorer, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Alex Kim. Believing Krieger was armed, police called in a SWAT team.

Four other people were in the home but all came out when ordered to leave, said Officer Sam Park.

One of the people, Kimberly Angarella, 21, was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen credit cards. The woman’s arrest was not related to the investigation, Park said. No injuries were reported.

The standoff occurred two miles from where Officer Randal Simmons, a SWAT team member, was shot and killed last February during a standoff.
