Plane strikes Buena Park homes; 2 aboard injured

A small Beechcraft plane on its way to Fullerton Airport late Sunday afternoon smashed into two houses in Buena Park, half a mile short of its destination, Orange County Fire Authority officials said.

Both men aboard were badly hurt and taken by ambulance to UCI Medical Center in Orange, according to Capt. Stephen Miller.

“The plane had clipped the top of the roof from front to back and went into a wall between the two houses,” he said. It came to a stop inside the second house, at 6375 Verdi Road. That house is vacant, and no one was home at the first house hit, 6374 Indiana Ave.

One of the men aboard was trapped and was cut out of the wreckage by firefighters, who arrived shortly after 5 p.m.

One of the men was believed to be in his 30s, the other in his 60s.

The hospital would not release information on their conditions, citing federal privacy laws.

When the plane crashed, it took down power lines, cutting electricity to some neighboring homes.

Miller said he did not know where the flight had originated but said the pilot radioed the airport, saying there was an emergency, before crashing.

Both houses remained evacuated Sunday night, awaiting today’s arrival of Federal Aviation Administration officials to investigate.
