Santiago fire is finally contained, officials say
From Times Staff Reports
The stubborn Santiago fire, which consumed 28,400 acres and destroyed 15 homes over the past 2 1/2 weeks, is fully contained, officials said Friday.
The blaze, started by an arsonist Oct. 21 and fanned by Santa Ana winds in the Cleveland National Forest, was declared 100% contained about 6 p.m. Thursday.
Firefighters are now “putting out the hot spots,” said Lynette Round, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Fire Authority.
No suspects have been arrested in the case despite a $250,000 reward, officials said.
