Vacant building, site of condo project, is burned
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A massive blaze Sunday damaged a long-vacant industrial building slated to be reborn as a condominium project, authorities said.
About 100 firefighters were called to the 1600 block of West Commonwealth Avenue about 2:30 p.m. The fire’s heat collapsed parts of the building, officials said.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
In recent years, homeless have used the building for shelter, officials said.
The fire’s cause was under investigation.
