Cartoonist’s work was seen on TV and in Playboy

Marty Murphy, 76, a cartoonist with several television credits and whose work appeared in Playboy magazine, died Thursday in Los Angeles, said his niece, Judy Kaenel Czajka.

Murphy worked as a production designer for animated shows including “Mister Magoo’s Christmas Carol” in 1962 and as a character designer for shows including “Wait Till Your Father Gets Home” from 1972 to 1974. He also worked in television as a storyboard artist and writer.

Murphy’s first work in Playboy was published in July 1963 and his last was in June of this year, a spokesman for the magazine said. He has had 348 works published in Playboy.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, 310 S. Van Ness Ave., Los Angeles.
