The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq or who died at a military hospital of their injuries:

Shane T. Adcock, 27, of Mechanicsville, Va.; captain, Army. Adcock was killed Wednesday when a grenade struck his Humvee while in a convoy in Hawija, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Julian M. Arechaga, 23, of Oceanside, N.Y.; sergeant, Marine Corps. Arechaga was among three Marines killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Raymond S. Armijo, 22, of Phoenix; specialist, Army. Armijo was among four soldiers killed Oct. 2 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Nicholas A. Arvanitis, 22, of Salem, N.H.; corporal, Army. Arvanitis was killed Oct. 6 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Bayji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Brandon S. Asbury, 21, of Tazewell, Va.; sergeant, Army. Asbury was killed Oct. 7 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Support Battalion, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Shane R. Austin, 19, of Edgerton, Kan.; private first class, Army. Austin was killed Oct. 8 when a grenade struck his tank in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 35th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division in Baumholder, Germany.

Jon E. Bowman, 21, of Dubach, La.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Bowman was among three Marines killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Dean R. Bright, 32, of Roseburg, Ore.; private first class, Army. Bright was among four soldiers killed Oct. 4 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire and a bomb exploded while they searched a building in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Timothy R. Burke, 24, of Hollywood, Fla.; specialist, Army. Burke was among four soldiers killed Oct. 4 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire and a bomb exploded while they searched a building in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Scott W. Dyer, 38, of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; chief warrant officer, Army. Dyer was killed Wednesday when he fell from a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter during a landing approach after it was attacked with small-arms fire in Banditemur in southern Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

James D. Ellis, 25, of Valdosta, Ga.; staff sergeant, Army. Ellis was among four soldiers killed Oct. 2 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Shelby J. Feniello, 25, of Connellsville, Pa.; private first class, Marine Corps. Feniello was among three Marines killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Timothy A. Fulkerson, 20, of Utica, Ky.; specialist, Army. Fulkerson was killed Oct. 8 when a land mine detonated near his vehicle in Tikrit, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 82nd Aviation Reconnaissance Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

John E. Hale, 20, of Shreveport, La.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Hale was one of two Marines killed Oct. 6 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Gene A. Hawkins, 24, of Orlando, Fla.; sergeant, Army. Hawkins was killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near his mine-protected vehicle in Mosul, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 14th Engineer Battalion, 555th Combat Support Brigade (Maneuver Enhancement) at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Thomas J. Hewitt, 22, of Temple, Texas; private first class, Army. Hewitt died Friday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., of injuries suffered Sept. 26 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Justin R. Jarrett, 21, of Jonesboro, Ga.; specialist, Army. Jarrett was among four soldiers killed Oct. 2 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Carl W. Johnson II, 21, of Philadelphia; corporal, Army. Johnson was killed Oct. 7 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Mosul, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Stephen F. Johnson, 20, of Marietta, Ga.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Johnson was killed in combat Oct. 8 in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Derek W. Jones, 21, of Salem, Ore.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Jones was killed Oct. 8 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

Jason A. Lucas, 24, of Columbus, Ohio; specialist, Army. Lucas was killed Friday when the vehicle he was riding in was rammed by a suicide bomber driving a van packed with explosives in the southern Afghanistan city of Kandahar. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Polk, La.

Jeremy S. Sandvick Monroe, 20, of Chinook, Mont.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Monroe was killed by a sniper Oct. 8 in Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

Christopher O. Moudry, 31, of Baltimore; staff sergeant, Army. Moudry was among four soldiers killed Oct. 4 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire and a bomb exploded while they searched a building in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

George R. Obourn Jr., 20, of Creve Coeur, Ill.; specialist, Army. Obourn was among four soldiers killed Oct. 4 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire and a bomb exploded while they searched a building in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Lawrence L. Parrish, 36, of Lebanon, Mo.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Parrish was one of two guardsmen killed Oct. 7 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 110th Engineer Battalion, Army National Guard in Kansas City, Mo.

Bradford H. Payne, 24, of Montgomery, Ala.; corporal, Marine Corps. Payne was one of two Marines killed Oct. 6 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Fernando D. Robinson, 21, of Hawthorne; specialist, Army. Robinson was killed Oct. 2 when his patrol unit was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire in Korengal in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Robert M. Secher, 33, of Germantown, Tenn.; captain, Marine Corps. Secher was killed by a sniper Oct. 8 in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan.

Kristofer C. Walker, 20, of Creve Coeur, Ill.; specialist, Army. Walker was among four soldiers killed Oct. 2 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Justin T. Walsh, 24, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; sergeant, Marine Corps. Walsh died Wednesday at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., of wounds suffered Oct. 5 when a bomb exploded near him while he was trying to defuse another one in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Phillip B. Williams, 21, of Gardnerville, Nev.; private first class, Army. Williams was killed Monday when his patrol unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Troop Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

John E. Wood, 37, of Humboldt, Kan.; specialist, Army National Guard. Wood was one of two guardsmen killed Oct. 7 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 891st Engineer Battalion, Army National Guard in Garnett, Kan.
