Tracking the FBI’s Record of Failures

Share

Re “New FBI Software May Be Unusable,” Jan. 13: It would require monumental effort, bordering on science fiction, to build a computer system sophisticated enough to track all the information in an FBI case file and monitor this information to predict terrorist acts.

FBI field agents and caseworkers need to be part of the front-end development team, contributing expert knowledge at the time of system design, and not just members of a test team commenting on the prototype. I fault the system contractor for not getting this type of expert information from the users at the very beginning.

Just why am I not surprised by the ineptitude of a once proud agency now mired in an endless litany of foibles? From Ruby Ridge to 9/11, the FBI has produced little in the way of success.
