Captive Children at Guantanamo
Re “Juveniles Are Among Cuba War Detainees,” April 23: How can we possibly set the example for democracy when we hold children prisoners as “enemy combatants”? Not even as prisoners of war, with legal rights under national and international law, but illegally under a category that is recognized by no one but George W. Bush & Co. Does this mean that our children are at risk of being held as “enemy combatants” by other countries? I find America as envisioned by the Bush administration a country I no longer recognize, and certainly no longer a credible democracy.
