U.S. should get rid of its nuclear arms

Re “Small nuclear conflict could affect globe, report says,” Dec. 12

There is no such thing as a small nuclear war. Climate specialists have verified that even the limited use of nuclear weapons would produce enough radioactive soot to blot out the sun, crashing ecosystems and devastating millions of people tens of thousands of miles from the blast.

The Berlin Wall came down 17 years ago. Why then does the United States still maintain thousands of nuclear arms? Toward what end -- to protect us? The science is in -- for the sake of public health, the U.S. must quickly work to eliminate nuclear weapons.
