No Mideast peace in our time, perhaps

Re “Israel halts peace talks over Hamas,” April 25

Is the price for a U.S.-brokered Mideast peace agreement too high for this generation of Israeli and Palestinian leaders? If it is, could the Mideast peace process advance faster by waiting for a new generation of negotiators from both sides?

To date, the Oslo accords of the 1990s represent the most recent fruitful gains in the barren Mideast peace process. And yet, there’s still a need to reconcile major differences for lasting peace.

It’s time for the Obama administration to concede an important point concerning the Mideast peace process: It’s not the best of times.
