Letters: Take control, President Obama

Re “Where’s Obama the manager?,” News Analysis, Nov. 5

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010. It was upheld by the Supreme Court on June 28, 2012.

It is commonly known as Obamacare and is Obama’s signature accomplishment — his “baby,” so to speak.

Yet he seemed as surprised as anyone at the malfunction of the insurance exchange website. Wasn’t there a dress rehearsal? And where was the president? If anything, Obama should have micromanaged the project.

There is a lot riding on Obamacare, including the integrity of the president and our confidence that the government can be efficient. But what matters most is the disappointment of the millions of frustrated Americans who truly need affordable healthcare.

Obama’s expertise has always been in self-promotion, polarizing political talk and impression management, the latter being the only example of his management skills.

An examination of Obama’s “work” history is alarmingly light on accomplishment and follow-through. His track record as a community organizer and senator is devoid of examples of his having drafted legislation or run anything meaningful.

The country has exactly the president it elected. Obama’s management skills haven’t disappeared; they were never in evidence.
