Readers React: Fail a civics test, face deportation?

To the editor: As long as the Joe Foss Institute wants the rest of America to follow Arizona’s lead in requiring high school students to pass a civics test, why not follow this idea to its illogical conclusion? (“Arizona swiftly adopts law mandating high school civics test,” Jan. 16)

As the late Andy Rooney once suggested, let’s have everyone in America take the citizenship test. If you fail, you’re deported.

If I fail, I’d like to be sent to Australia.

To the editor: The sample test includes questions such as “What ocean is on the East Coast of the U.S.?” The passing grade is 60%. The students are in high school.

This is a joke, right?
