Stunning views of the sun

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory has kept a steady eye on the sun since it was launched into Earth orbit in 2010, capturing some of the sun's most dynamic and explosive moments as our closest star heads toward solar-maximum -- the peak of its 11-year cycle. This gallery includes images from the observatory, and other views of the sun from other instruments, including the auroras caused by the sun here on Earth.
