Patriots parade picks two honorees
The Laguna Beach Patriots Day Parade Assn. selected two honorees for the 50th annual parade March 5.
The Honored Patriot of the Year is retired Marine Lt. Col. Carlos K. McAfee, a longtime Laguna Beach resident who was awarded the Navy Cross, the U.S. Navy’s second-highest award for gallantry in combat.
Longtime journalist and editor Stu Saffer is the Citizen of the Year. Staffer has covered Laguna for more than 45 years and oversees the website Stu News Laguna. More parade honorees will be announced within the next month.
The association is an all-volunteer organization supported financially by program advertisers and donations. The program ad deadline is Jan. 11 and the entry deadline is Jan. 15.
