No. 9 Louisville routs Ohio, 49-7

Teddy Bridgewater threw five touchdown passes and Michael Dyer had a 46-yard touchdown run as No. 9 Louisville defeated Ohio, 49-7, on Sunday.

Coming off an 11-2 finish and a Sugar Bowl upset of Florida, Bridgewater and the Cardinals (1-0) dominated. That pleased a sold-out crowd of 55,332 seeing them for the first time since that Bowl Championship Series win set off the school’s remarkable run of success that included an NCAA men’s basketball title, the women’s team’s runner-up NCAA finish and an appearance in the College World Series.

Bridgewater kicked off his Heisman Trophy campaign by going 23 for 28 for 355 yards. Damian Copeland and Kai De La Cruz each caught two touchdown passes, and DeVante Parker and Robert Clark each had one.

Dyer, the former Auburn star, debuted for Louisville and the Cardinals outgained Ohio, 615-273.

It was an impressive showing for a Louisville squad out to prove that last year wasn’t a fluke while starting this season with high expectations. The Cardinals began with their highest preseason ranking in school history and are favored to win the new American Athletic Conference that would earn another BCS bowl bid.

Colorado wins opener

Greg Henderson scored on a 53-yard fumble return in the fourth quarter and Connor Wood threw three touchdown passes — two to speedster Paul Richardson — to help Colorado beat Colorado State, 41-27, on Sunday in Mike MacIntyre’s coaching debut for the Buffaloes.

Wood often connected with Richardson, who was back on the field after missing last season because of a torn left anterior cruciate ligament. Richardson finished with 10 catches for 208 yards. He had an 82-yard touchdown catch on Colorado’s first pass play and sealed it with a 75-yard grab late in the fourth.

The Buffs have had four 200-yard receiving games in school history, two by Richardson. He had a school-record 284 yards receiving against California in 2011.

Wood was steady in the pocket all day, throwing for 400 yards.

Joe Hansley highlighted a strong showing on special teams for the Rams by scoring on a 74-yard punt return. Kapri Bibbs added two touchdowns, including one set up by Thomas Coffman’s 84-yard kickoff return.

Georgia loses receiver for season

Georgia receiver Malcolm Mitchell will miss the remainder of the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee in Saturday’s loss at Clemson.

Coach Mark Richt said Sunday that Mitchell will have season-ending surgery.

Mitchell, the leading returning receiver for the No. 5 Bulldogs, hurt his knee when jumping up to celebrate with a teammate following Todd Gurley’s 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. No. 8 Clemson beat Georgia, 38-35.

Richt says Mitchell may have been jumping up to chest-bump a teammate “and landed in a bad way.”

Georgia opens its Southeastern Conference schedule against No. 6 South Carolina on Saturday.
