SEATTLE — USC running back Silas Redd rushed for more than 100 yards for the third time this season in USC’s 24-14 victory over Washington on Saturday at CenturyLink Field.

Redd, a junior transfer from Penn State, gained 155 yards and a touchdown in 22 carries.

“I thought he had a real good day,” Coach Lane Kiffin said. “He took care of the football and ran hard, which is exactly what we told him we’re going to need on the road.”

Redd started the game with a 57-yard run. He took a handoff from quarterback Matt Barkley, and ran to his left but appeared to be stopped at the line of scrimmage. But he moved to his right and then broke down the right sideline to Washington’s nine-yard line.

“It was designed to the left but it was kind of plugged up,” he said. “I saw an opening to the right and I took it.”

Redd rushed for 107 yards against Syracuse and 158 yards against California.

Catching up

Robert Woods made five catches for 88 yards, leaving him four short of Dwayne Jarrett’s USC career record for receptions.

Jarrett caught 216 passes for 3,138 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2004-06. Woods, a junior, has 212 catches for 2,444 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Dion Bailey shines

USC linebacker Dion Bailey got his team-leading fourth interception in the first quarter.

The 6-foot, 210-pound Bailey, who came to USC from Lakewood High as a safety, picked off a Keith Price pass with 11 minutes 31 seconds left in the first quarter, setting up the Trojans’ first touchdown.

Bailey also made seven tackles and iced the game for USC when he delivered a huge hit on Price as the quarterback scrambled late in the fourth quarter. Price fumbled, USC recovered, and the Trojans’ 10-point lead was safe.

Curtis McNeal returns

Senior tailback Curtis McNeal, sidelined for most of the Utah game because of an apparent head injury, returned against Washington and had 58 yards in 11 carries.

Sophomore defensive lineman J.R. Tavai played for the first time since suffering an injury against Syracuse. He had two tackles.

Xavier Grimble gets going

Sophomore tight end Xavier Grimble continued to show his strength, making a tough catch for a touchdown and shedding several tacklers on a 24-yard reception.

Grimble finished with two catches for 42 yards.

Tight end Randall Telfer, the Pac-12 Conference special teams player of the week after making a one-handed touchdown catch and blocking a field goal last week against Utah, did not play against Washington.

Telfer suffered an ankle injury against Utah.

Josh Shaw plays cornerback

Torin Harris started at cornerback opposite Nickell Robey, but Josh Shaw also played the spot.

After the Utah game, receiver Marqise Lee had lobbied to play cornerback, but coaches decided against it.

Shaw, a transfer from Florida who played at Palmdale High, practiced at safety and cornerback during the week. He had five tackles and made an interception late in the fourth quarter.

Quick hits

USC leads the series with Washington, 51-28-4. ... USC scored for the 187th consecutive game, establishing a school record for consecutive games without being shut out. USC was last shut out in a 27-0 loss at Washington in 1997. Three of the last four times USC has been shut out were at Washington. The Huskies also blanked the Trojans in 1983 and 1990.
