Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly’s goal: no more ejections

CHICAGO -- Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly kept his word Saturday when he said before a 3-0 victory against the Cubs that he wouldn’t be ejected from the game.

Try not to laugh, but he added that he wouldn’t be ejected from any other game this season.

“That’s the plan,” Mattingly said while laughing.

Mattingly drew his third ejection of the season in the Dodgers’ 6-2 victory over the Cubs on Friday. The ejection was the 11th of his three-year managerial career.

“The plan is to stay in the dugout,” Mattingly said. “It seems like when I go out there, my chances aren’t very good.”

Mattingly was also thrown out of the Dodgers’ loss to the New York Yankees on Wednesday.

“That’s it right there,” Mattingly said. “That’s it for the year.”

Yeah, right. Why would he say something like that?

“Because I believe that right now,” Mattingly said. “That’s what I feel right now. I believe that I’m going to stay in the right for the rest of the year.”

Mattingly said he has been calmer this year.

Not this week, he was told.

“Yeah, just the last couple of days,” he admitted.
