Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw rode in the All-Star parade into Petco Park on Tuesday afternoon. Once he reached the ballpark, he resumed the rehabilitation of his lower back, which has sent him to the disabled list two weeks ago and prevented him from starting in this game for the first time.

On Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, Kershaw planned to throw his second bullpen session since receiving an epidural injection for a herniated disk on June 30.

“You never know until you pitch,” Kershaw said. “But I’m definitely feeling better.”

When will he pitch? It sounds like it may happen quite soon. Kershaw will not start during the first turn through the rotation after the second half starts Friday against Arizona. But Kershaw could rejoin the club later on this upcoming three-city trip.

Kershaw has controlled the flow of information about his injury, asking Manager Dave Roberts and the rest of the organization to not reveal a timetable. The Dodgers have abided by his wish, and Kershaw has declined to provide specifics.

“I’m just going to be really vague on this stuff,” Kershaw said.

Roberts indicated Kershaw began playing catch last week “ahead of schedule.” And when Kershaw threw a light bullpen session on Friday, Roberts said the team was “pleasantly surprised” with his recovery. The mystery may be solved during the first two weeks after the break.
