Sophomore running back Darrell Scott rushed for 242 yards in 29 carries and scored four touchdowns as Moorpark rolled up 488 yards in total offense to rout Thousand Oaks, 50-28, in a Marmonte League opener Saturday at Ventura Buena.

Thousand Oaks (3-1) was ranked No. 25 in the Southland by The Times, but Moorpark (2-2) had played a much tougher nonleague schedule.

The Musketeers opened a 29-7 halftime lead, relying on dominating blocking by 6-foot-7 junior offensive tackle George Halamandaris and 6-4 senior guard Brandon Sofley.

Taylor Embree and Delano Howell scored second-half touchdowns to help No. 16 Newhall Hart defeat Lake Balboa Birmingham, 23-13, at College of the Canyons.

Birmingham (1-3) led, 10-7, at halftime and 16-7 early in the second half before Embree scored on a 37-yard pass reception and Howell added a 13-yard scoring run. Howell’s touchdown, which followed a 56-yard run by Robbie Casselberry, came with 5:17 left and gave Hart (3-1) the lead.

Hart lost starting quarterback Tyler Lyon to a concussion on the second play of the game. But the Indians’ defense held sophomore Milton Knox to a season-low 37 yards rushing.
