Boys’ basketball: Santa Margarita wins Trinity League opener over Orange Lutheran

Ira Lee, Shareef O’Neal lead 54-50 victory

Santa Margarita has plans to challenge Mater Dei in the Trinity League this season, and the Eagles began league play on Friday night with a 62-52 win over Orange Lutheran.

Adrease Jackson had 24 points and 17 rebounds. Jordan Guest had 17 points. Chris Williams led Orange Lutheran with 21 points.

Mater Dei (17-1) defeated St. John Bosco, 67-54. Justice Sueing scored 18 points, Michael Wang 15 and Spencer Freedman 14. Jake Bailey scored 18 points for St. John Bosco. Jackson Hallock scored 22 points in Servite’s 55-37 win over JSerra.

In the Mission League, Chaminade rallied for a 66-57 win over Crespi. KJ Martin had 15 points, Dayton Doucette 14 and Sebastian Lopez 13. Devon Rojo scored 20 points for Crespi.

Alemany defeated Loyola, 87-51. Fred Odhiambo finished with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Earnie Sears added 16 points. Alemany is 13-3 and 2-0. Harvard-Westlake defeated St. Francis, 76-68. Joey Walsh scored 24 points for St. Francis. Johnny Juzang led Harvard-Westlake (2-0) with 19 points and Cassius Stanley had 18.

In the Gold Coast League, Ira Lee made an impressive debut for Crossroads, contributing 15 points and 15 rebounds in a 54-50 win over Brentwood. Charley Wadler made seven threes and finished with 21 points for Brentwood.

Calabasas defeated Newbury Park, 47-45. Zach Favaedi had 14 points. Charles Neal had 19 points and nine assists in Rancho Mirage’s 72-60 win over Brawley.

El Camino Real defeated Buckley, 73-44. Derrick Morrris scored 19 points. Saugus defeated Campbell Hall, 63-57, behind Zach Phipps, who scored 23 points. Jonny Garnett had 18 points and 16 rebounds for Campbell Hall.

Sylmar defeated Executive Prep, 85-63. Dayquan Williams scored 24 points.

In the Redondo tournament, Bishop Montgomery defeated Santa Monica, 73-53. David Singleton and Jordan Schakel each had 15 points. Redondo received 16 points from Ryse Williams in a 72-55 win over Camarillo. Bishop O’Dowd defeated Lynwood, 70-59.

Cathedral defeated Taft, 65-63. Oxnard improved to 16-3 with an 81-41 win over Rio Mesa. Mason Johnson had 21 points.

Thousand Oaks defeated Westlake, 65-58. Wony’a Singleton scored 14 points in Peninsula’s 62-51 win over Paramount. Oaks Christian defeated Agour, 59-49. Jordan Jones led the Lions with 17 points.

Village Christian defeated Tesoro, 54-48, in overtime. Majur Majak had 16 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks. Jordan Starr added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Flintridge Prep defeated Firebaught, 72-31. Jake Althouse had 22 points and 11 rebounds.
